Congratulations to Pamela King, who received highly commended in the Illawarra Women in Business Awards last Friday. Pam, representing Urban Timber, was a strong contender in the Illawarra Best New Business category sponsored by IMB Business Banking.

Illawarra Best New Business Award

Pam is the creative force behind Urban Timber. She has practiced as a visual artist for over twenty years and now works with our customers to discuss ideas and develop unique designs for the intended space, advising on proportions, timber selection and colours.

On receiving the award, Pam said, ‘This demonstrates that women can lead and work in male-dominated industries like furniture making. It also shows that a diverse background of skills and expertise can combine as part of a successful and innovative venture.’

Pam remains connected to the arts, and is working with Urban Timber and iAccelerate to establish a community exhibition space at the Innovation Campus of the University of Wollongong.

For the past seven years, Pam has helped curate and organise the SCARF Art 4 Refugees exhibition and regularly donates her own work.

In 2016, Urban Timber donated a finery table to Art 4 Refugees and proceeds went directly to support the refugee community living in the Illawarra.
