The Kalina Table

Urban Timber had the pleasure of working with Ben and Kelly to design their dining table. We visited their leafy, Mangerton home to assess the space and discuss the types of timber and overall look they were after.

Ben and Kelly like eclectic, rustic furniture. They wanted the table to compliment their pale timber dresser in the dining area, and golden-brown timber flooring.

We chose American White Ash for the table top.

American White Ash is a versatile and sturdy hardwood and the colour and grain matched beautifully with their dresser. We used a honey tint and matt finish.

After brainstorming with Kelly and Ben, we decided on recycled Kwila for the legs which tied in really well with their floorboards   When unsanded as you can see beneath Kwila has a lovely bluey-pink haze. We agreed to leave the Kwila raw with a just a light sanding for a rustic finish.

The contrasting colours, grain, and finish of the two hardwoods combined to create a unique, handsome, and durable table, perfect for their dining space.

The American White Ash looks fabulous next to their dresser.

The Kalina table was a challenging and satisfying project for Urban Timber. Assessing the space and consulting with Ben and Kelly about timber, colours and finishes ensured the right solution, and very happy customers.
